Rs 2.2K crore paid to farmers for paddy: DC
The Deputy Commissioner, Dr Preeti Yadav, shared that 10,13,997 MT of paddy had arrived in the district’s markets and of this, 10,05,384 MT have already been purchased. She provided a breakdown of the paddy purchase, stating PUNGRAIN had bought 451,556 MT, MARKFED purchased 244,797 MT, PUNSUP bought 188,100 MT, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation procured 117,807 MT and FCI acquired 2,438 MT. Additionally, private traders had purchased 686 MT of paddy.
Dr Yadav said Rs 2,210.78 crore had been paid to farmers for the purchased paddy so far, covering 100 per cent of the payments due. The Deputy Commissioner added the process of lifting the purchased paddy from the markets was progressing swiftly, with 7 lakh MT already lifted and over 50,000 MT being lifted daily.
Dr Yadav urged farmers to adopt in-situ techniques for managing paddy stubble. She explained these techniques not only improve soil fertility but also help reduce environmental pollution. She emphasised the need for everyone to be environmentally conscious, highlighting that protecting the environment is essential for securing a better future for upcoming generations.
