Royal thumping for Super Kings
Abu Dhabi, October 2
Young Rajasthan Royals batsmen Yashasvi Jaiswal, Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube put into shade a fine effort by Chennai Super Kings’ Ruturaj Gaikwad (101 not out) in a shock result here tonight.
RR, in race with three other teams for the fourth place in the knockout stage, easily chased down table-toppers CSK’s 189 in 17.3 overs, with 15 balls to spare. Dube led the way with an unbeaten 64 off 42 balls, off which he hit four sixers and four fours.
After openers Ewin Lewis (27 off 12 balls) and Jaiswal (50 off 21) had got the team off to a roaring start with a stand of 77 off only 32 balls, Samson (28 off 24) and Dube added 89 in 9.3 overs to take RR on the verge of victory over a shell-shocked CSK bowling attack.
Gaikwad’s form
Earlier, Gaikwad continued his red-hot form with a magnificent century as CSK scored an imposing 189/4.
Gaikwad struck nine fours and five sixes in his 60-ball 101 not out to make a mockery of RR’s bowling attack.
Ravindra Jadeja (32 not out off 15 balls) scythed through the RR attack at the back-end as CSK added 55 runs in only 3.4 overs.
Delhi make capital gain
Sharjah: Shreyas Iyer showed steely temperament while Ravichandran Ashwin compensated his poor bowling effort with a winning six as Delhi Capitals inched towards a top-2 finish, beating Mumbai Indians by four wickets.
Chasing a modest 130 on a challenging Sharjah Stadium track, DC made rough weather of the chase but Iyer with a run-a-ball 33 anchored the innings and had a crucial unbroken 39-run stand with Ashwin (20 not out). Needing just four runs in the last over, Ashwin sealed the chase with five balls to spare as he hit a six off Krunal Pandya. — PTI
