Round Glass Academy-Mohali storms into quarters of Balwant hockey tourney
Round Glass Hockey Academy-Mohali secured an emphatic 7-1 victory over PIS Malwa Hockey Academy-Ludhiana to enter the quarterfinals of the 18th All India Balwant Singh Kapur Hockey Tournament. The league round matches continued on the third day of the tournament at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium, with thrilling encounters across all pools.
In Pool C, the opening match between Namdhari XI and Eknoor Hockey Academy-Tehang ended in a 1-1 draw. Navraj Singh scored for Namdhari XI in the 15th minute, while Damanpreet Singh equalised for Eknoor in the 57th minute. Both teams earned a point each, with Dhandeep Mehmi of Eknoor Hockey Academy being named the ‘Best Player of the Match’.
In Pool B, the National Centre of Excellence-Sonepat registered its first win by defeating SGPC-Amritsar 2-1. Sukhdev Singh opened the scoring for SGPC in the 42nd minute, but Ashu Moriya’s brilliant double in the 47th and 55th minutes secured victory for Sonepat. Ashu Moriya was adjudged the ‘Best Player of the Match’.
In Pool D, Round Glass Hockey Academy dominated PIS Malwa Hockey Academy with a 7-1 win. Goals from Arjandeep (3rd minute), Gursevak Singh (4th and 40th minutes), Amandeep (9th and 23rd minutes), Prince Kumar (50th minute) and a consolation goal by Daljit Singh (54th minute) for Ludhiana helped them seal the victory. Gursevak Singh was declared the ‘Best Player of the Match’.
In Pool A, Surjit Hockey Academy-Jalandhar claimed its first win with a 4-0 triumph over Major Dhyan Chand Sports College-Safai. Goals were scored by Arshdeep Singh (33rd minute), Rohan Bhushan (47th minute), Sehajpreet Singh (51st minute) and Harman Singh (59th minute). Rohan Bhushan received the ‘Best Player Award’.
Prominent dignitaries including Olympians Davinder Singh Garcha, Surinder Singh Sodhi, Rajinder Singh Senior and international player Tejbir Singh Hundal were present to encourage the players. Other notable attendees included Gursharan Singh Kapur, Harbhajan Singh Kapur and several other sports personalities.
