Rohtak MC gets tough on violators for defacement; 25 fined in 3 days
Getting tough against those who defaced the government properties by pasting posters, flex banners and stickers, the authorities at the Rohtak Municipal Corporation (RMC) have imposed a total penalty of Rs 6 lakh against 25 persons in the past three days for the violation of Haryana Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1989.
The action came after local Congress MLA Bharat Bhushan Batra flagged the issue of defacement of public properties in the recently held session of Haryana Vidhan Sabha. He had also asked the state government to take appropriate action in this respect in order to maintain the beautification of Rohtak city.
“The action under the Haryana Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, 1989, continues against those who have put up their posters, flex banners, hoardings and stickers at government buildings, public places, walls of market area and flyovers. The MC teams have persistently been issuing challans and imposing penalty upon violators. FIRs will be lodged against those who fail to pay the fine,” said Dharmendra Singh, Commissioner, MC.
Another MC official pointed out that sites had been earmarked for the hoardings and banners where they can be put up only after the approval of the MC office. “So, pasting the posters and installation of flexes/ hoardings, other than the earmarked sites is illegal and also the violation of the Haryana Prevention of Defacement of Property Act, under which there is a provision of penalty and police action,” he added.
Notably, Batra, while raising the issue at Vidhan Sabha, had said that the main gate of Mansarovar Park in Rohtak city had been beautified by using marble but it was getting defaced due to posters and stickers pasted there.
“Be it Mansarovar Park or Double Park, their beautification has been done so that people like it, but these stickers and posters have completely spoilt them. The walls and gates of government colleges are also dotted with posters and stickers. Even the places where statues of great men are installed are not left untouched,” Batra had claimed.
