Rohtak MC gets tough on violation of GRAP norms
Tightening the noose around violators of guidelines of the graded response action plan (GRAP), the authorities of the Rohtak Municipal Corporation have issued 94 challans and imposed a fine of Rs 2.72 lakh on those violating the guidelines.
"Action is being taken against those found violating the GRAP-IV guidelines in the Rohtak municipal area. Teams have been deployed to carry out inspections to ensure compliance with norms and measures like sprinkling of water, smog-control tower and anti-smog guns have also been employed," said Dharmender Singh, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Rohtak.
The air quality index (AQI) of Rohtak reached 338 on Monday, though it came down to 192 later in the day. As per official classification, even the AQI of 192 falls in 'poor' category.
In view of the prevailing situation, all construction and demolition activities have been banned till further orders and orders have been issued to cover the construction material with green mats.
The residents have also been warned against dumping debris at public places.
Water is being sprinkled on roads and trees along the roads with the help of water tankers fitted with anti-smog guns. The smog-control tower is operational and spraying of water has been added to the mechanical sweeping operations with the help of machines.
The Commissioner has appealed to the residents to cooperate with the municipal authorities in combating pollution by stopping construction and demolition activities and burning of garbage.
