Road infra issues discussed with Tamta

Former minister Phunchog Rai and former MLA Ravi Thakur, accompanied by a delegation from the Spiti region led by Lahaul and Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana, met with Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta in Delhi two days ago. The meeting focused on the current status and urgent needs related to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and the condition of key roads in the Spiti region.

MLA Anuradha Rana stated that during the discussions, the delegation emphasised the pressing need to improve several vital roadways. Among the key requests were the inclusion of the Kaza-Sumdo route via Mane and Leo bypass, which will connect Spiti with Kinnaur, into the BRO’s jurisdiction and the immediate commencement of necessary repair work on the Tindi-Udaipur road in the district.

The delegation highlighted the importance of the Koksar-Chhatru bypass, urging that these projects should receive the attention they deserve for the benefit of local communities.

"Minister Ajay Tamta responded positively to each request, assuring the delegation that the Central government would collaborate with the state government to facilitate these projects. His commitment to addressing the infrastructure challenges faced by the region was reassuring to the members of the delegation, who stressed the significance of these roads for both local residents and tourism," the MLA said.

The MLA stated that the discussions with minister Tamta and the senior officials from BRO, including the Director General and Additional Director General, were fruitful.

The representatives of delegation expressed gratitude to the minister for his willingness to engage and support the pressing infrastructural demands of Spiti.

"The collaboration between the local representatives and the central government is expected to pave the way for timely action on these critical road initiatives, which will benefit residents and travellers alike," the Spiti residents said.
