Road accidents in Rohtak fall by 9%, deaths by 12%
Rohtak Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Narendra Kumar has directed the officers concerned to get a fresh safety audit conducted of roads and submit their report.
He asserted that in view of the foggy weather, the officers concerned should get the roads marked, get sign boards installed and get the illegal cuts closed.
"FIRs should be registered against those who repeatedly make illegal cuts on roads," the ADC said, while presiding over the monthly meeting of Road Safety and Safe School Vehicle Policy at Rohtak on Friday.
He instructed the officers concerned to submit the action-taken reports regarding the pending issues along with photographs, strictly asking them to ensure compliance with the orders given at the meeting.
It was stated at the meeting that there had been a 9-per cent reduction in road accidents and 12-per cent reduction in deaths due to accidents in the district as compared to last year.
Giving instructions to the officials of the National Highways Authority of India, the ADC said that the patrolling vehicles of the authority should inform the officials concerned about illegal cuts on highways.
"All departments should carry out proper mapping of dark spots," he stated.
While reviewing dark spots or accident-prone areas, the ADC told the officers concerned to find out the real cause behind the accidents and find a solution to it so that there is no loss of life.
He directed the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) to inspect at least 10 school buses every month along with the constituted committee.
The Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority was asked to provide complete information about challan through mobile app.
The ADC directed the officials concerned to increase the challans of those indulging in overspeeding, driving after consuming alcohol and driving without helmets.
The RTA Secretary, Major (retd) Gayatri Ahlawat, gave information about the challans issued by the authority.
Additional Superintendent of Police Shashi Shekhar said the department concerned should lodge police complaints against those making illegal cuts.
"Such persons will be warned once by the police and FIRs will be lodged against them if they do it again," he maintained.
