Rise in disasters linked to human dishonesty: Speaker
“Last year’s flood was a manmade disaster and caused due to the obstruction in the natural flow of water,” Punjab Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said while presiding over the Faculty Development Programme organised by the National Institute of Disaster Management.
The programme was held at in collaboration with Punjabi University, Patiala.
Sandhwan said it was clear that as humanity continued to act dishonestly, disasters would only increase in future. He remarked that while the rise in disasters was linked to human dishonesty, the task of managing these must be undertaken with honesty.
He emphasised the importance of conducting such programme at school level, so that children can be educated about disaster management from an early age.
Encouraging the youth to actively participate in politics, he said if educated and young people do not take an interest in politics, there was a greater likelihood of corrupt individuals entering the political sphere.
