Rich nations’ climate finance proposal draws Greta’s fury
Climate activist Greta Thunberg has lambasted the draft text on a new climate finance package for the developing world at COP29, calling it “a complete disaster” and a “death sentence” for millions vulnerable to the climate crisis.
Her comments came as this year’s conference, originally scheduled to end on Friday, spilt into overtime, and negotiations dragged on overnight.
Two blocs leave talks
At least two groups of the world’s most vulnerable countries staged a walkout of the negotiation room at the UN climate conference on Saturday, expressing strong dissatisfaction with the draft agreement on climate finance for the Global South. Negotiators from the Least Developed Countries (LDC) group and the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS) walked away from the meeting room as the developing and the developed nations discussed the latest draft.
