Residents protest 20-hour power cut at Dhakoli grid
Residents of Harmilap Nagar Phase-I, Phase-II, Saini Vihar, Gurjivan Vihar and several others staged a protest outside PSPCL’s power grid in Dhakoli after they were left without power since 10pm on Monday. The angry residents resorted to raising slogans against the PSPCL and the Punjab Government, claiming there was no power in a dozen housing societies from Monday night (10pm) to Tuesday evening (7pm). PSPCL officials had to call the police to negotiate with the angry residents, including children and women.
In Baltana, the supply of electricity continued to play hide and seek for most part of the day. Zirakpur PSPCL Executive Engineer Surinder Singh Bains said, “Many employees were on strike which affected the supply. Rains also played a spoilsport.”
PSPCL officials said a mass leave by the different union members of the PSPCL further compounded the problem. Many PSPCl employees today struck work by taking mass leaves in different offices of Mohali. Badhmajra residents, too, claimed having to face long power cuts.
