The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram on Friday issued a challan to Rampratha EWS Vista Apartment, a housing society located in Sector 37-D for not complying with Solid Waste Management Rules-2016. The civic body also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on the housing society.

This housing society is a bulk waste generator and was not disposing of its solid waste on its own in a scientific and proper manner, officials said.

Sanitation Inspector Baljeet Kumar and his team inspected the society on Friday and found many irregularities in the management of solid waste.

It may be mentioned that under the Solid Waste Management Rules-2016, it is mandatory for bulk waste generators to dispose of waste generated on their premises on their own. They should also separate wet, dry and domestic hazardous waste and disposed it of properly. The MC has also created a registration portal for bulk waste generators.

Expert agencies have been empanelled to assist these units in proper waste disposal. According to an estimate, 50 to 55 per cent of the total waste generated daily in Gurugram is from bulk waste generators. The sanitation crisis in the city is also attributed to their lack of efforts to manage their waste properly.
