With the declaration of candidates by the Congress on Friday night, resentment has surfaced in the Baroda constituency. Senior Congress leader Kapoor Singh Narwal resigned from the all posts of the party today after the Congress gave its ticket to sitting MLA Indu Raj Narwal again.

Bhupinder aide Nirwal resigns

  • Kapoor Singh Narwal, who was considered a close aide of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, has resigned from the party stating he was falsely promised a seat by the latter.
  • Jitender Hooda, son of late MLA Krishan Hooda, also opposed Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda, stating he was promised ticket during the 2020 bypoll but he had been ignored again

Narwal accused former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda of cheating him, alleging that he didn’t fulfill his promises made in the previous Baroda by-poll.

Narwal, who was considered a close aide of Hooda, has called a meeting of his supporters on Sunday.

Speculations about his joining the BJP have intensified.

Narwal said after Krishan Hooda, who was elected MLA from Baroda seat in 2019, passed away, the seat got vacant. He claimed that in the 2020 byelections, former CM Hooda, while giving ticket to Indu Raj Narwal, had promised to give the ticket to him in the next Assembly elections.

Narwal said he would definitely give a reply to this deception. Notably, Narwal contested the Assembly elections unsuccessfully in 2009 and 2014 on the INLD ticket and he joined the Congress during the Baroda bypolls in 2020.

Meanwhile, Jitender, alias Jeeta Hooda, son of late MLA Krishan Hooda, also opposed former CM’s son and Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda.

“My father had left the Kiloi seat for Bhupinder Singh Hooda in 2005 even after winning the election,” he said.

His father had won from the Kiloi seat thrice in 1987, 1996 and 2005. After that, the then CM shifted him to Baroda seat from where he won the elections consecutively thrice in 2009, 2014 and 2019. He alleged that Deepender had promised to give a seat to him during the 2020 Baroda by-elections, but he had been ignored again.
