Republic Day celebrations: Bains unfurls Tricolour in Mohali
Mohali, January 27
Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains unfurled the Tricolour at Shaheed Major Harminder Pal Singh Government College here on Republic Day. The minister, accompanied by DC Aashika Jain and SSP Dr Sandeep Garg, witnessed the Republic Day Parade and took the salute during the march-past led by DSP Harsimrat Singh Chhetra.
Kulbir Singh and Hardip Singh, descendants of freedom fighters Kehar Singh Basma and Natha Singh Landran, were honoured at the event. Jagmeet Grewal, widow of Col Manpreet Singh, Sewa Medal, Anita Rani, widow of Hawaldar Ranjodh Singh, Shaurya Chakra, Sunita Kumari, widow of Hawaldar Kashmiri Lal, and Sawita Rani, widow of Head Constable Satbir Singh, were also honoured with mementos.
Sixty-two residents and government employees were conferred with the Punjab Government Praman Patra, and 21 students from various schools were felicitated for their achievements. Fourteen employees of the Mohali MC were also honoured.
Bains appreciated the contributions of freedom fighters and the efforts of Dr BR Ambedkar in drafting the Constitution.
Talking about the major achievements of the state government, Bains said 117 schools of eminence have been set up so far, and the training provided to school principals in Singapore has set a precedent for education.
