Remote Lahaul village connected to 4G services

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said here today that remote Rarik village in Lahaul and Spiti district had been successfully connected to high-speed 4G broadband services. “This achievement has been made possible through collaboration with the BSNL, thus enabling residents of this cold and challenging region, where temperatures frequently plunge below zero degree, to access modern telecommunication services,” he added. The newly commissioned 4G services site at Rarik had been set up using the Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) technology.

The Chief Minister said that the state government played a proactive role in ensuring the success of this initiative. “Himachal Pradesh is the first state to grant 100 per cent approval for land transfer under the 4G Saturation Project. All necessary clearances from the state departments were granted in a time-bound manner, facilitating the establishment of 4G towers in uncovered villages. Till date, clearances have been provided for 366 forest and 46 government sites, covering a total of 658 locations. As of now, 294 towers have been commissioned, while the work on 37 additional towers is underway,” he added.

Sukhu said that the government was dedicated to improving the lives of the residents of tribal and remote regions by offering quality and hi-tech services to them. “Since assuming office, the Congress government has implemented numerous measures to uplift the living standards of people in tribal and hard-to-reach areas. The government had for the first time celebrated Himachal Day at Kaza in the Spiti valley in April 2023,” he added.
