After 70 homes, were gutted in fire in Kishtwar district on Monday afternoon, the district administration has provided relief material to the affected families.

Political leaders demanded immediate help for the locals whose houses were completely damaged in Marwah area of the district. Rs 5 lakh as relief was released on Monday itself while the arrangements for lodging were made later.

CPM leader and MLA elect Mohamad Yousuf Tarigami has expressed grief over the tragic fire mishap that reduced several residential houses and other structures to ashes in Marwah on Monday.

He urged the administration to depute revenue teams to assess the losses incurred by the victims, so that the value of compensation is fixed and distributed immediately. He also demanded a fire service station near the area.

Kishtwar Red Cross dispatched relief material for the victims after directions from the district administration.

Mattresses, bedsheets, pillows, buckets, blankets, kitchen sets and 35 tents were sent to the area where the affected persons are staying. However, the cause of the fire was still not known.
