In a major relief to Congress candidate from the Ambala City segment Nirmal Singh, party rebels former MLA Jasbir Mallour and Himmat Singh withdrew their nominations on Monday.

To mark their resentment against the candidature of Nirmal Singh, both Jasbir Mallour and Himmat Singh had filed their nominations as Independent candidates. Interestingly, the trio belongs to the Bhupinder Singh Hooda camp and Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda managed to defuse the tension between them.

Deepender Hooda today reached Ambala and assured Jasbir Mallour and Himmat Singh of due respect and positions in the party and the government. Senior Congress leader Pratap Singh Bajwa, Harish Chaudhary and Ambala MP Varun Chaudhry were also present on this occasion. Himmat Singh said, “Following the assurance of Deepender Hooda and other senior leaders, I have decided to extend my support to party candidate Nirmal Singh. I have withdrawn my nomination. We will work for the party and make sure that the Congress makes its government in the state.”

Similarly, Jasbir Mallour said, “I have withdrawn my nomination and extend my support to the party. We will make all efforts to ensure party’s victory in the Assembly elections and oust the BJP from Haryana.”

Party candidate Nirmal Singh said, “I am grateful to Deepender Hooda, Himmat Singh and Jasbir Mallour for their support. Jasbir Singh and Himmat Singh are big leaders and after their decision of withdrawing their nominations, there is no doubt that we are going to win the election from Ambala City. We all are Congress workers, and we will work together under the leadership of Bhupinder Singh Hooda.” Rohtak MP Deepender Hooda said “They have accepted my request and I assure them all due respect and positions in the party and the government in the state. I am confident that all Congress workers and leaders will work together for the party in the election. Himmat is a Sikh leader and his support will send a positive message in all segments and the Congress will form its government with a majority.”

Meanwhile, Nirmal Singh’s daughter Chitra Sarwara continues to remain in the fray from the Ambala Cantonment Assembly segment, causing tension for Congress party candidate Parvinder Singh Pari, who belongs to the Kumari Selja faction.

Chitra had filed her nomination as an Independent candidate and she was allotted her election symbol ‘whistle’ today. After getting the symbol, Chitra Sarwara said, “We are the whistle-blowers of Ambala Cantonment as we have been raising the issues of corruption, poor roads and other civic issues. This whistle will help us in raising the issues strongly.”

Meanwhile, a local Congress leader Sudhir Jaiswal, who had filed his nomination as an Independent candidate from Ambala Cantonment withdrew his nomination and said, “I have withdrawn my nomination and I will work for the party.”
