Release budget for Shagun Scheme: Jai Ram Thakur to Himachal Govt
Shimla, July 17
The Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, here today asked the state government to release budget for the Shagun Scheme as soon as possible and look into the pending applications.
Hitting out at the Congress government, Thakur, in a statement, said the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government had stopped the funds for the scheme, which was meant for the marriage of daughters.
“Thousands of applications are pending in each district. This financial year, the government has not even allocated a budget for the scheme. Whereas, in the previous financial year, even after the approving the budget, the money was not released,” he claimed. Thakur said the scheme was launched in the previous BJP government on April 1, 2021.
“Under the scheme, the government provided Rs 31,000 for the marriage of daughters from BPL families. This amount is significant in the marriage of a daughter in an economically-weaker family,” he said. “During the BJP government’s tenure, thousands of daughters benefited from the scheme. After CM Sukhu took charge, he engaged in vendetta politics and discontinued the scheme,” he said.
