No plan for integrated development in Amritsar

There is no proposal for integrated development of Amritsar, said MoS Rao Inderjit Singh in reply to a question by Gurjeet Singh Aujla. The Centre has sanctioned the construction of 173.28-km roads on the international borders in the Amritsar sector.

No move to criminalise marital rape, says MoS

MoS Bandi Sanjay Kumar said there was no proposal to criminalise sexual acts by a man with his own wife, the wife not being under 18 years of age. “Sections 74, 75, 76 and 85 of the BNS provide for a sufficiently adequate remedy which include penal consequences protecting the right and dignity of a woman,” Kumar said.

UAPA conviction rate

Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said the conviction rate under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act was 29.2 per cent in 2019. Rai said in 2019, there were 1,226 cases registered under UAPA, 1948 arrests and 34 convictions.

10% rise in rural literacy

Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary told the LS that rural literacy rate (for seven years and above) rose from 67.77% in the 2011 Census to 77.5% .
