After the BJP, the Congress is also facing resentment of its workers over the allocation of party tickets for the state Assembly elections in different constituencies of the district.

BJP leader Shamsher Kharkara’s wife Radha Ahlawat addresses a meeting with their supporters at Kharkara village on Saturday.

Several local leaders and workers of both parties have expressed resentment over the fielding of certain candidates against their wishes.

The leaders of the BJP and the Congress have started holding meetings of their supporters to chalk out their future course of action.

The local leaders are weighing their options before them after the denial of ticket, which include switching over to some other party or contesting the election as Independent candidates. A prominent BJP leader from the Meham constituency, Shamsher Kharkara, who had contested the last two elections on the BJP ticket unsuccessfully and was seeking the party ticket for his wife this time, organised a meeting of his workers and supporters at Kharkara village in the district today. A large number of people from different villages of the Meham constituency attended the meeting.

Kharkara hinted at contesting the election after he held a discussion with his supporters, but he did not reveal wh.

“We will hold another panchayat tomorrow, following which a final decision regarding contesting the election will be taken,” said Kharkara.

Several local leaders of the BJP have resigned in protest against the allotment of party ticket to former India kabaddi captain Deepak Niwas Hooda.

Deepak Hooda had joined the BJP a few months ago and he is also considered an outsider to the Meham constituency as his village falls in the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi Assembly segment.

Some local Congress leaders and workers of the Kalanaur (Reserved) Assembly constituency are also opposing the candidature of three-time MLA Shakuntala Khatak, who has been allotted the party ticket this time as well. A protest demonstration was staged against Khatak in Kalanaur yesterday.

Today, a meeting was held by members of the Ravidass community. The meeting decided to field an Independent candidate from the community. Khatak’s supporters also celebrated the allocation of the Congress ticket to her today. Interestingly, some BJP leaders from Kalanaur have also opposed the allotment of party ticket to former Rohtak Mayor Renu Dabla.
