Sirsa, July 27

The Rania Bar Association’s protest for granting it subdivisional status entered its 11th day, with advocates halting work in solidarity. The association members, including Secretary Ranjit Singh Kariwala, met former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda during a gathering organised by Sirsa Bar Association. They handed over a letter to him and urged him to raise their cause in the upcoming Assembly session.

Kariwala emphasised Rania met all criteria to be declared a subdivision, as confirmed by the District Deputy Commissioner’s report to the Centre and state governments. He highlighted the community’s long-standing demand, previously supported by Hooda during a similar protest that was raised in 2022.

Addressing the gathering, Hooda affirmed the justification for Rania’s subdivision status and pledged to raise the issue vigorously in the Assembly. He criticised the current state government’s stance on the matter and vowed to fulfil the demand promptly if Congress returned to power.

Meanwhile, Rania Bar Association President Rinkal Banga said they had received widespread community support for the protest, including from local traders who were threatening market closures to press for the demand of declaring Rania a subdivision. Political and social organisations have also rallied behind the cause, urging swift government action on the long-pending issue.
