Mandi Member of Parliament (MP) Kangana Ranaut on Thursday presided over a review meeting to assess the progress in the ongoing Centrally-sponsored schemes in the tribal Bharmour Assembly constituency of Chamba district.

Ranaut is on her maiden tour to the Bharmour Assembly segment, which is part of the Mandi parliamentary constituency, after winning the elections to express her gratitude to the electors.

During the meeting, the MP instructed officials to ensure that the benefits of all schemes, run by the Central and state governments, reached the general public.

Kangana emphasised that improving basic infrastructure like roads and water supply in the Bharmour constituency was among her priorities. She directed officials to ensure that the residents in the constituency were not deprived of fundamental amenities.

The MP further called for the effective implementation of various Central schemes, ensuring eligible beneficiaries received their full benefits. She instructed officials that a list of villages lacking road access be prepared and submitted to her office to expedite the provision of road facilities.

Recognising the challenges faced by the people in the remote and hilly regions of Bharmour, the MP urged officials to take necessary steps to provide basic amenities in these areas. She also instructed department heads to conduct awareness campaigns to inform people about government schemes and maximise their impact.

Officials briefed the MP on the progress under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY), which aims to connect villages with over 250 residents to road networks. To boost tourism, Kangana proposed constructing a tunnel connecting the Holi area of Chamba district to Kangra’s Uttrala and committed to placing this demand before the Central government.

Earlier, the Bharmour MLA Dr Janak Raj discussed the need for additional central funding for the sacred Manimahesh Yatra. The additional funds would improve sanitation, electricity and the 13-km pedestrian trail to ensure a smoother pilgrimage experience for devotees.

The proceedings were conducted by Officiating Additional District Magistrate, Kulbir Singh Rana along with officials of various departments.

Later, addressing party workers, Ranaut thanked people of Bharmour for giving her the decisive lead in the election and an opportunity to serve the people of the area. “Mandi is my birthplace and, obviously, I have special affection for it. I am a Pahadi and know the difficulties people face in these remote areas. During elections, I visited many far-flung areas and came to know that no leader ever visited these villages before or after elections,” she said.
