Rajesh Dharmani for transparency in working of coop societies
“Bring professionalism and transparency in the working of cooperative societies and provide best services to people,” said Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani while speaking at a cooperative education training programme at Dhaneta, near here, today.
Dharmani said that cooperative societies could play a big role in the development of rural areas and the uplift of all sections of society. He added that societies had to expand their activities along with imbibing the spirit of professionalism, transparency and inclusiveness in their functioning.
He said that cooperative societies should explore the potential of other activities also instead of limiting themselves to the sale of ration. He added that self-help groups, farmers and gardeners produce many other products but they do not find market. Cooperative societies should come forward to market these products.
Dharmani said the state government had taken several steps to strengthen the cooperative societies. “The government has given exemption in the APMC fees to cooperative societies, thus increasing their income,” he added.
The minister asked the Cooperative Department to develop a website to make all accounts of all cooperative societies online. He said that this would bring transparency in the functioning of cooperative societies and people would have more trust in them.
Officer of Regional Cooperative Management Institute, Chandigarh, Sunil Kumar, Assistant Registrar of Cooperative Societies Veena Bhatia, and Director of State Cooperative Bank Jagdish Sharma were present on the occasion.
