Rainfall leaves 30 roads shut
As many as 30 roads have been closed due to steady rainfall across the state since Thursday evening. The Weather Department has flagged a moderate to high flash flood risk over a few watersheds in the districts of Shimla and Sirmaur till Saturday evening. Some snowfall was recorded in the Chitkul area of Kinnaur district last night. The Weather Department, though, hasn’t confirmed it as it doesn’t have a weather station close to the area.
Since Thursday evening, light to moderate rainfall has been recorded in various places across the state. Today, the districts of Shimla, Solan and Kinnaur recorded the maximum precipitation. As per the Weather Department, the precipitation is likely to reduce from tomorrow onwards across the state. There’s a forecast for light rain at isolated places in the state.
Light rain continued in some parts of the state and Guler recorded the maximum rainfall at 64.2 mm since Thursday evening, followed by Palampur (46.4 mm), Dharamsala (41 mm), Slapper (27.1 mm), Chopal (21.4 mm), Sangla (20.8 mm), Kalpa (20.3 mm) and Naina Devi (18.4 mm).
The number of power and water supply schemes affected by the rain in the state stand at 34 and 11, respectively, as per the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC). Since the monsoon onset in Himachal Pradesh on June 27, the state’s rainfall deficit till date stands at 20 per cent.
