Sirsa, July 6
On Saturday, Sirsa district experienced its first heavy downpour. While many districts in the state have already received significant amounts of rain, this was Sirsa’s first of the season.
The heaviest rainfall in the district was recorded in Kalanwali at 24mm, while the lowest was in Ottu at 4mm. Sirsa itself saw 14mm of rain. The rain brought relief from the heat and humidity and rejuvenated the farmers, who were in desperate need of water for their paddy and cotton crops. Progressive farmers expressed their relief, saying the rain had saved their crops, which were on the verge of withering due to the lack of water.
However, the rain also caused several areas, including the auto market, to be waterlogged. This affected business in the city. Other areas, including Hisar Road, Dabwali Road, Suratgaria Market and Janata Bhawan Road, also experienced waterlogging. Although the water drained by afternoon, residents have urged the state government to find a permanent solution to the recurring waterlogging problems in these areas.
