New Delhi, August 28

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Wednesday said the Qatar authorities had handed over two 'saroops' of Guru Granth Sahib that were confiscated from an Indian national to the Embassy in Doha. "We thank the Government of Qatar for the same," said the MEA.

The MEA also urged all Indians, residing in Qatar or any other countries, to scrupulously follow local laws and regulations in all matters.

The 'saroops' were taken by the authorities in a case related to running of a religious establishment without approval. The matter had flared up last week with the Sikh community in India raising the issue.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee had separately issued protest statements.
