Pupils learn history of English literature
The newly launched Centre of Excellence for Language Learning (CELL) by Chitrakoot School of Liberal Arts, Shoolini University, held its first lecture on “What it Means to be a Student of English Literature”. The key speaker of the session was Tej Nath Dhar.
The event commenced with a welcome address by Assistant Profesor Hemant Kumar Sharma, who introduced the audience to the focus of the lecture series.
The three-part series, led by Dhar, is scheduled over the coming weeks. In this first session, Dhar engaged students by posing fundamental questions such as “What is English literature?”
He explored the intrinsic relationship between literature and language, describing how oral poetry, the earliest form of literature, served both as entertainment and education.
Literature, he explained, was a natural outgrowth of cultural life, predating its formal definitions, and evolved across centuries from the Greeks to the modern era.
