Punjabi singer Feroze Khan, who was born and brought up at Dhaler village near here, has extended his support to the Malerkotla Administration’s Swachhta Hi Seva campaign.

He gave a clarion call to the public and his fans in particular to shun use of banned plastics and minimise the generation of non-biodegradable garbage.

Addressing a gathering, Feroze said he would extend his cooperation to all government and non-government organisations that work for the cleanliness of the environment.

“Having observed the consequences of contamination of mother earth with undesirable materials, including non-biodegradable plastics and toxic substances, I have decided to buttress all campaigns being launched to promote cleanliness,” said Khan. He urged his fans to minimise garbage at their homes and workplaces.

Recycling of materials and durable items, carrying paper or cloth bags and segregation of solid waste materials at source were cited as fundamental keys to resolution of mounting heaps of garbage near habitations.

The MC President, Vikas Krishan Sharma, said a detailed program has been drafted in which all stakeholders, including Municipal Council officials, office-bearers of civic bodies and residents, would be roped in to make the campaign a success.

Malerkotla DC appreciated the singer’s gesture. She said SDMs at all three subdivisions had been advised to extend support to all events that were being conducted to spread awareness about the significance of cleanliness.
