Youth held with heroin, uncle on the run
The police apprehended Sikandar Khan, a youth from Gudiya village in Hanumangarh, today when he returned from Amritsar with 251 gm of heroin. However, his uncle, Ahmed Nawaz, managed to escape. Police records show Ahmed Nawaz has 35 criminal cases registered against him, including offences under the NDPS Act.
Hanumangarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Arshad Ali said Ahmed Nawaz, also known as ‘Chidiya’, is currently on the run. A notorious criminal with a history of involvement in assault, the Arms Act, and drug-related crimes, Nawaz is well known to law enforcement.
The SP said for some time, authorities had been receiving information about a drug trafficking network in Gudiya village, involving local youths who were buying and selling heroin on a large scale. These youths were allegedly also urging others in the area to consume drugs within their homes. Based on this intelligence, police had been closely monitoring suspected drug dealers.
The police said Sikandar Khan and his uncle, Ahmed Nawaz not only sold heroin from their house in Gudiya but also used a room nearby as a meeting point for drug users. The house became a regular stop for drug retailers and addicts, with motorcycles and vehicles often parked outside. In a separate room, Sikandar Khan was seen selling heroin after weighing it on an electronic scale.
The police today released several videos showing Sikandar Khan involved in transactions involving drug. These videos, secretly recorded some time ago, provided crucial evidence of his illegal activities. Following the release of the footage, the police carried out multiple raids on the hideouts of Sikandar Khan and Ahmed Nawaz, but this is the first time Sikandar has been apprehended.
The police said Sikandar Khan had travelled to Amritsar the previous day to purchase heroin from a dealer named Sukhjinder Singh. A police team, monitoring his movements, followed him on his return journey. As soon as Sikandar reached his house, the police raided the premises and arrested him; however, his uncle managed to flee.
