Hundreds of farmers on their way to Delhi got a smooth passage from Punjab, with no policemen to stop their movement towards Haryana. However, tension spiralled at the Shambhu interstate border inside Ambala. The Haryana Police used water cannons and teargas to disperse hundreds of farmers from Punjab who broke barricades, throwing some into a river.

On Wednesday night, hundreds of farmers spent almost the entire night traveling and gathering near Rajpura from where they marched towards Shambhu on Thursday morning. “We will reach Delhi, come what may,” said the farmers who were travelling on tractors, trucks and even cars.

A majority of the farmers, including the young and elderly, were seen having food on the roadside in the morning before starting for their journey towards Delhi. “We have come prepared with ration and daily items to pitch in Delhi for months. Instead of standing by the farmers, who form the backbone of the economy, the Haryana Government is putting up nakas. We will not tolerate any resistance and ensure that we reach Delhi,” said farmers.

Earlier in the day, farmers reached Shambhu, where the administration had put up barricades and used water cannons to stop the farmers near Tyora village, but farmers broke open the barricades and continued their march towards Delhi.
