Warrants against 2 over protest against BJP leader
Faridkot, September 2
About five month after members and leaders of various farmer unions staged a protest against Hans Raj Hans, BJP candidate for the Faridkot Lok Sabha seat, the court of Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Faridkot, has issued arrest warrants against Kirti Kisan Union (KKU) general secretary Rajinder Singh Deep Singh Wala and union member Naunihal Singh.
The protest was held against Hans Raj Hans on May 5 here and the police had registered a case under Sections 107 and 151 of the CrPC, but no arrest was made at that time. After the BJP leader lodged a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer and the latter asked the district authorities to take necessary action to provide a level playing field to all candidates, the police arrested Rajinder Singh and Naunihal Singh on May 12. However, keeping in view protests by farmers, both of them were “unconditionally” released the very next day.
“The SDM court has now issued arrest warrants against us without serving any summoning notice. We will not surrender to these orders of the SDM and start a protest against this attitude of the district administration,” Rajinder Singh said.
