Fazilka, August 27

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has booked Panchayat Secretary Santokh Singh, posted at Block Development and Panchayats Office, Fazilka, Sarpanch Mahla Singh, and Mukhtiar Singh, residents of Saidey Ke Hithad village in the district, for allegedly usurping a Central Government grant of Rs 1.2 lakh under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna (PMAY).

A VB spokesman said during an inquiry into a complaint, it was found that Mukhtiar Singh had allegedly received funds amounting to Rs 1.2 lakh fraudulently under PMAY despite already having a five-marla house on the panchayat land allotted by the state government in the village. The spokesperson said sarpanch Mahla Singh and panchayat secretary Santokh Singh had allegedly approved the self-declaration of beneficiary Mukhtiar Singh despite having knowledge of his pucca house in the village.
