Urging like-minded organisations to come together, the president of Guru Ravi Dass Tiger Force, Jassi Talhan, has given a call for a bandh in Jalandhar district on October 4 if the Punjab Government did not postpone the dates of the gram panchayat elections.

Shobha yatras to be taken out across Punjab on October 16 by followers of Maharishi Valmiki

He said the decision of the government was against the SC community as the elections, scheduled for October 15, were just two days before Pargat Diwas of Lord Valmiki (October 17).

Talhan said Pargat Diwas shobha yatras would be taken out across Punjab on October 16 by the followers of Maharishi Valmiki. He said community members were of the view that they remained busy in organising religious  programmes in October, hence they would not be able to participate in the elections with vigour.

He further added that due to security protocol during the elections, preparations for Pargat Diwas would be disrupted.
