Triple murder case: In joint operation, six shooters arrested from Maharashtra
In an overnight joint operation of Punjab’s Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF) and the Maharastra Police, six shooters suspected to be involved in a triple murder case were arrested on Saturday morning. They were apprehended from the Sawangi tunnel on the Nagpur-Mumbai Samrudhi Super Expressway while they were travelling in a Toyota Innova car (MH26AC5599).
Accused have links with fugitive
DGP Gaurav Yadav said that as per the preliminary investigation, it has come to light that all the arrested six shooters were close associates of mastermind Ashish Chopra,a fugitive and hiding abroad on a fake passport. DGP further said that the incident was apparently a fallout of intergang rivalry between the two warring gangs. Further investigations are on to establish the linkages in this case, mre arrests are expected soon, he added.
Along with the accused, the police also arrested another person identified as Gajender, the driver of the vehicle, who reportedly belongs to Nanded.
As per information based on interrogation of one of the arrested accused and through electronic surveillance, the AGTF sleuths, who had been following the accused, contacted the Maharashtra Police this morning around 3 am seeking help in nabbing them. Subsequently, the team of Maharashtra Police from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Police Station in Aurangabad got into action and in a carefully executed operation, they intercepted the accused, who were travelling in a Toyota Innova at around 5.45 am from the Samruddhi highway tunnel.
The police team, comprising of 10 officers and 40 personnel, including sleuths from the quick response team (QRT), took necessary precautions, wore bulletproof jackets as they had information that all the accused were carrying firearms.
SSP Saumya Mishra said the joint operation was carried out based on intelligence gathered by the AGTF, which led to the arrest of seven accused, adding that the police had already arrested one of the accused earlier. The SSP said a Punjab Police team had been dispatched to bring the accused from Aurangabad to Ferozepur.
Earlier on Tuesday, three persons, including Jaspreet Kaur (26), her brother Akasdeep Singh (21) and cousin Dildeep Singh (32), were killed. Two of their relatives were injured when six motorcycle-borne assailants pumped around 50 bullets into them. It is pertinent to mention that Jaspreet was scheduled to get married next month, and all of them were going to invite their relatives for the wedding in a car when they were attacked near a gurdwara.
Later, the police had booked eight persons besides three unidentified persons following the complaint lodged by Charanjit Kaur, mother of one of the deceased Dildeep Singh.
