On the call of the provincial committee of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta-Ugrahan), farmers today made the Gidderanwali toll plaza on Abohar-Sriganganagar stretch of the NH 62 free for an indefinite period.

BKU district president Gurbhej Singh Rohiwala demanded the state government and the Centre should immediately fulfil the demands of the farmers. “Produce lying in the mandis should be purchased at MSP, PR 126 variety paddy sown by the farmers as per the recommendations of the state government should be purchased. Government should compensate for the low production and price of Pusa 144 variety. The moisture limit of paddy should be reduced to at least 22 percent, farmers should be given Rs 200 per quintal for disposing of the stubble without burning it,” Rohiwala added.
