Harinder Singh Dhaliwal (35), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate for the Barnala bypoll, filed his nomination papers today. Meanwhile, raising a banner of revolt against the party, its Barnala district president Gurdip Singh Bath entered the fray as an Independent candidate.

Simranjit Singh Mann’s grandson Govind Singh Sandhu (27) also filed his nomination on the ticket of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) on Friday. Sandhu, an alumni of Delhi University, is a first timer and a young politician who has been working with the veteran leader Mann for the past some years.

Bath (42) claimed there was resentment among the party workers over the denial of ticket to him despite being the party’s district unit president for three consecutive terms since 2018. He said he was sure that the voters of the constituency would ensure his victory.
