Five computer teachers will begin fast-unto-death from December 22 over non-fulfillment of their demands by the state government.

Protesting under the banner of Computer Teachers’ Struggle Committee, the teachers have been sitting on a hunger strike for the past 90 days outside the Sangrur Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Members of the committee announced that five teachers would go on fast-unto-death in the first phase starting December 22.

They said they had been protesting for the last 19 years and were now willing to even risk their lives to achieve their rights.

They said ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains had promised regularisation of their services and benefits under the Sixth Pay Commission. However, after coming to power, these leaders backtracked, they said.
