Demanding implementation of UGC scales as per the 7th Pay Commission, teachers from the universities and colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh today held a state-level protest march in Bathinda, the constituency of Finance Minister Manpreet Badal.

Teachers of Panjab University (Chandigarh), Punjabi University (Patiala), Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar), Punjab Agricultural University (Ludhiana) and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (Ludhiana) and nearly 200 colleges, including government, in Punjab and Chandigarh, are on a strike since November 30, 2020.

Dr Jagwant Singh, general secretary, Punjab Federation of University and College Teachers’ Organisation, and Dr Bhupinder Singh Virk, president, Punjab University Teachers’ Association, headed the protest. They said the Punjab Government should not deviate from UGC regulations.

Teachers have also announced to take out a similar protest march near the residence of Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi in Morinda on January 6.
