Tarn Taran NGO feted for water conservation efforts
The Dhan Dhan Baba Sant Khalsa Ji Sewa Society has constructed a pond at Dubali village in Tarn Taran to conserve water and protect environment.

Today the efforts of the NGO were recognised at the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Kisan Mela and it was feted with “Bhai Babu Singh Brar Best Pond Award” for water conservation and environment protection.
The pond, built on 28 kanal, has been beautified with ornamental plants due to which birds also flock the water body.
Sukhwant Singh, president of the society, said, “The villagers have left no stone unturned in saving every drop of water. Further, the water is used for irrigating fields and preserve groundwater.”
A farm worker Jasvir Singh from Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Samrala, was conferred with an “Appreciation Certificate” for scaling-up the seed distribution among the farming community.
His steadfast efforts have enabled the KVK, Samrala, to retain the top spot in sale of seed among 35 centres of the PAU situated in the state in the last three years.
This year, the PAU announced these two more awards in addition to the six progressive farmers
of Punjab.
