A notorious gangster, Sukhwinder Singh, alias Kaka or Shally, was injured in a brief encounter with local police on Sunday. A resident of the Muradpur locality in Tarn Taran, Singh was wanted for the broad daylight murder of commission agent Gurdeep Singh Gokha in Sathiala village of the Baba Bakala subdivision.

SSP Abhimanyu Rana said that he was associated with gangster-turned-terrorist Lakhbir Singh Landa’s module. “He was responsible for separate firing incidents in Piddi village and Tarn Taran on August 9 and 10, respectively,” Rana said.

During interrogation, Singh revealed the location of his concealed weapon, used in various criminal incidents, near a canal. However, he attempted to escape and fired at the police, who returned fire in self-defence, injuring him. He is currently admitted to the local civil hospital, said the SSP.
