Chandigarh, August 31

The Akali Dal reform movement presidium formed by Akali rebels today demanded immediate resignation of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal after Akal Takht declared him “tankhaiya”.

After a meeting of the presidium, its convener Gurpartap Singh Wadala said a man declared “tankhaiya” could not hold any position and no Sikh was allowed to keep any social contact with him.

“Sukhbir should resign from the SAD president’s post immediately, if he really respected Akal Takht. As ‘tankhaiya’, he cannot participate in a social function, offer ‘ardas’ in a gurdwara or pay obeisance till he is accepted back after undergoing punishment. The SAD constitution also bars any ‘tankhaiya’ from holding the president’s post. He has ruined the Akali Dal due to his lust for power.”

The presidium also resolved to fight for the rights of Punjab, release of Bandi Singhs, saving river waters and obtaining due grants from the Centre.
