Takht Damdama Sahib jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh resigns
Takht Damdama Sahib Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh has resigned citing mental agony following alleged threats from former SAD leader Virsa Singh Valtoha.
His resignation comes a day after the Akal Takht jathedar asked the SAD to expel Valtoha holding him guilty of “denting the credibility of Takht jathedars”.
Giani Hapreet Singh said he had submitted his resignation to SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami. “I have urged Dhami saheb to accept my resignation as I would no longer be able to shoulder the responsibility of this position under such mental pressure,” he said.
Giani Harpreet Singh said, “Initially, Valtoha assassinated my character, but now he has crossed all limits by targeting my family. I have been receiving threatening calls. I am a father of two daughters. The mental agony that I have been passing through is now beyond tolerance,” he said.
He alleged that the threatening messages were being sent at the behest of the social media wing of the SAD. “I came to know that some SAD leaders were behind this. I am pained that even the SGPC was silent on it.”
Refuting the allegations, Valtoha said Giani Harpreet Singh had become the target of a conspiracy. “He is levelling baseless allegations. If he has proof, he can initiate action against me.”
