Just about a month after a “miscreant” committed suicide in Amritsar by seizing the firearm of a personal security officer assigned to a sitting judge, the Punjab and Haryana High Court has dubbed the probe as perfunctory. The Division Bench of Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Anil Kshetarpal also called for concluding the investigation expeditiously.

The court also observed it was of the considered view that ends of justice would be satisfied if paramilitary force (CRPF) was deputed for the Judge’s personal security. “A perusal of the report regarding status of the investigation in three offences in question reveals that the investigation appears to be perfunctory in nature since the investigating officer, despite expiry of a number of days, has not been able to trace out the projectile of the bullet from the scene of crime,” the Bench asserted.
