Students depict pain, trauma of Kolkata horror

The Women Studies Centre of Gopichand Arya Mahila College today organised an impactful event titled ‘Invisible Scars: One Day Healing, Awareness and Action-Orientated Session’.
The event hosted by the college aimed to shed light on the challenges faced by women and promote empowerment through various activities.
The programme began with a dramatic enactment, which depicted the pain and trauma of the Kolkata rape incident, reflecting on the horrific reality of such crimes in the country. The event featured a panel discussion on the topic “Self to Society: The Challenges of Women’s Journey towards Empowerment,” where panellists delved into the multifaceted problems faced by women in society.
The programme also included recitations of songs centred on women’s empowerment, a poster-making competition on the theme “Violence against Women,” and an awareness rally organised by students to express their outrage over the Kolkata incident.
The principal of the college, Rekha Sood Handa emphasised the importance of strength and self-defence.
Addressing the students at the gathering, the principal urged students to learn skills such as judo, karate, and other self-defence techniques to protect themselves from potential harm.
The Women Studies Centre coordinator at the college, Amandeep Kaur said the Kolkata horror has also been taken notice of by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
