Sangrur student suicide case: Kin end dharna after assurance by police

Sangrur, January 31

After an assurance by the district police, family members of Class XII student Karan Singh, who died by suicide on January 29 at Meritorious School, Ghabdan, lifted the dharna last night from the main gate of the school. The family was protesting, demanding legal action against a school teacher, holding her responsible for their son’s death.

Talking to this reporter today, Sangrur SDM Charanjot Singh Walia said the family members of the deceased agreed to stop protesting outside the school after they were assured that Sangrur SSP would hold an inquiry into the boy’s suicide and would take necessary action.

The SDM said the post-mortem examination of the deceased was conducted today at the civil hospital and the body was handed over to the family members.

Sangrur Sadar SHO Gurpreet Singh Handa said no person had lodged a complaint in this case, we had initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC.
