The incidents of stubble burning remained in a single digit for the third consecutive day, with just five cases reported today.

Of these, two farm fires were reported in Amritsar, while one each in Fazilka, Ferozepur and Moga.

The state had witnessed 26 cases of burning paddy straw on October 1, 16 on October 2, eight on October 3 and nine cases on October 4.

The state has seen a significant drop of 72 per cent in farm fires since September 15, compared to the same period last year.

A total of 193 incidents have been recorded this year, compared to 754 during the corresponding period in 2023.

The experts said paddy harvesting had got delayed due rain in the last week of September and once the harvesting picks pace, farm fires may increase.
