Special camps for women welfare begin
Aimed at providing employment opportunities to women besides promoting health and hygiene among them, the state government today started holding special awareness camps from the Malout Assembly segment.
Cabinet minister and Malout MLA Dr Baljit Kaur inaugurated the camp at Danewala government college here. She said over 500 women had registered for free screening of cancer, while 209 girls applied for jobs during the camp and 134 got placement in seven companies, she claimed.
Stalls were also set up to help women in applying for widow pension, old-age pension etc.
Cheques for Rs 51,000 each were given to 134 beneficiaries under the shagun scheme. Special Chief Secretary Raji P Shrivastava, Special Secretary Vimmi Bhullar and Muktsar Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Tripathi were present on the occasion.
