Sound system stolen from Prabhat Pheri palanquin outside gurdwara
Hours before the Prabhat Pheri was to begin at Gurdwara Damdama Sahib on the occasion of Shri Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary, unknown miscreants stole the sound system units installed on the palanquin. The theft was discovered early this morning, leaving the local community in shock.
Harmeet Singh, head of Shri Guru Nanak Sewa Dal Simran Society; Surinder Kaur, head of Women Satsang Sabha; and Sukhchain Singh, the local chief of Gurdwara Damdama Sahib, all strongly condemned the theft. They called on the police to increase patrolling in the area and take immediate action against the culprits.
The police had recently claimed that 14 motorcycles, each with two officers, had been deployed for patrols to curb mobile snatching and other thefts in the area. However, this incident has raised concerns about security.
A spokesperson, Gurvinder Singh Vipan, said at around 4 am, he, along with Iqbal Singh, Amit Charaya and Krishna Kumar, went to escort the palanquin for the Prabhat Pheri. They were shocked to discover that the sound system units mounted on the palanquin’s speakers were missing. The city-1 police have been informed and are investigating the incident.
In a separate crime, a car was stolen from a busy area near Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk, a high-traffic zone. Chandan Chhabra reported to city police that their car, which had been parked outside their home on street 14, was stolen. CCTV footage reportedly shows two individuals taking the vehicle.
