In an attempt to stop illegal smuggling and sale of liquor from distilleries, the Punjab Government is seeking technical assistance to check the origin of each bottle, pint or quarter sold in the market.

A unique mobile app has been developed by the Excise Department to check the authenticity and legality of liquor, which will empower the consumer to know the origin of the liquor (where it has been distilled) and whether the hologram on the bottle is real. The move follows an extensive checking of all distilleries, bottling plants and breweries across the state last month. Rajat Aggarwal, Commissioner (Taxation), Punjab, told The Tribune: “We are all set to launch the mobile app, which is a sure shot way to discourage sale of liquor without holograms or with fake ones.”
