The investigation has revealed that the shooters handed over the weapon to a person in Haryana before fleeing in different directions.
The Delhi Police have already caught Priyavrat Fauji, Kashish and Ankit in different operations along with Sachin Bhiwani, who provided shelter and other support. The police recovered eight grenades along with an under-barrel grenade launcher, nine electric detonators, an assault rifle with 20 cartridges, three sophisticated pistols, 36 rounds and a part of an AK series assault rifle from them. The explosives were part of a backup plan in case the weapons did not work. However, the actual weapons used in Moosewala’s killing could not be found from them.
Three other shooters — Jagroop Roopa, Manpreet Maanu and Deepak Mundi — are still at large. The identification of the weapons used in the crime will have to be corroborated by forensic examination whenever these are recovered. It will be difficult to prove the case in a court without the recovery of the weapons and matching with cartridges recovered from the spot, said the sources. Earlier, police officials at the crime spot had hinted that an AN-94 assault rifle seemed to have been used by at least one shooter. A team of Punjab forensic experts, led by the Deputy Director, Dr Ashwani Kalia, had examined the crime spot, the cartridges and the abandoned vehicles — a Bolero car, a Corolla and an Alto — used by the shooters.
