SGPC to launch app for Gurbani

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has decided to launch its own app for Gurbani verses, Sikh rehat maryada and history. This decision, among others, was taken during the SGPC’s executive body meeting held here today.
On the directions of the Akal Takht, the SGPC had formed a panel to scrutinise existing Gurbani-based web applications only to find that most of them contained misspelt or wrong pronunciation of the holy script.
SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami, who chaired the meeting, said, “Errors in Gurbani-based apps have been confirmed in the report of the sub-committee, formed to investigate database of apps.”
“Action will be taken to stop developers from making such apps. Soon, under the supervision of senior granthi singhs, a database of nitnem (daily prayers), sunder gutka sahib and Gurbani will be generated. An app will be developed by the SGPC for this purpose. This will also contain information about Sikh history and rehat maryada,” he said.
“Private developers will have to seek permission before launching their apps. The SGPC will provide them correct version of Gurbani data base,” he added.
Speaking about the recent report released by a special investigation team (SIT) investigating 2015 sacrilege cases, Dhami said, “Leaders, who have been politicking in the past on the sacrilege issue, should apologise to Sikh Panth.” He demanded that the perpetrators of sacrilege should be sternly punished.
